94% of recruiters nowadays use social media, specifically LinkedIn. That alone should get you thrilled. Your dream job is there, no “wasta” needed. However, there are a few things you need to know.

Present yourself professionally

LinkedIn is a social networking site, not Instagram. Even if you love that picture of you on the beach with a mimosa, it’s time to update that profile picture, please. Take a professional one for your LinkedIn, it’s going to show recruiter that you take your job hunting seriously. Think about what type of guise you’re trying to express.

Building relationships is key

Applying for the job is a great step, but it’s not enough. You can’t just sit back and wait for someone to contact you. Join professional groups and interact in them whenever you can. Building relationships has always been a major ingredient. You never know who might put in a good word for you.

Recommend/Endorse people so they do the same to you

Recommendations and endorsements are tremendously valuable. They indicate credibility to employers searching to hire. Even if you’re a freelancer or an independent consultant, recommendations will show recruiters that you are trustworthy. Don’t forget to also recommend or endorse your recommendee too — it’s an excellent business practice that produces a win-win situation.

Be specific about your job hunt

When reaching out to people, it’s vital to know how to write a good networking email that will definitely get you a response. Being clear and simple is the key. If you’re looking for a job in X field and you want to talk to person X in that field about their personal experiences, make sure to state that. Don’t just ask for whatever jobs that are available, explain how your experiences and/or skills match that specific job.

Never underestimate LinkedIn

LinkedIn is, undisputedly, one of the best tools for finding the job of your dream. Always remember it’s not solely about the job, it’s about taking frank and vigorous interest in both your career and your personal life. Connections and chances are going to come your way because you are now in contact with a vast amount of interesting people with professional backgrounds, experiences, skills and knowledge. If you happen to be someone who doesn’t have a LinkedIn account or not frequently use theirs, change that via clicking here.
