Uber Introduces Bus Service in Egypt

Breaking the news with the Giza pyramids in the background, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the introduction of the Uber Bus for Egypt’s congested streets.

“We started in Egypt because it’s a very important market for us; it’s the largest market in the Middle East; and it’s one of our top 10 markets in terms of trips,” Khosrowshahi told CairoScene.

Egyptians commute regularly on stuffy overcrowded minibuses, as they are the most affordable transportation method for the majority. Since minibuses are often over-packed and recklessly move around the streets of Egypt, Uber decided to provide this service, yet, with cleaner vehicles and more reliable drivers.
