Science Says If You’re A Workaholic Then You’re A Narcissist

If you’re bragging about being a workaholic, well you need to slow it down and hush it up a little bit. It’s always amazing to go the extra mile for your job and prove to yourself and others that you’re a determined job-killing machine.

But it has been hypothesized that people who live to work and who get a sense of entitlement by being recognized as top-achievers, are in fact narcissists at heart. The constant urge to obtain rewards and acknowledgment at work, is said to reflect a person’s desire to be labeled as the best or basically the only best. This same study has revealed that managers are more likely to have narcissistic attributes compared to their subordinates, which explains their high positioned status in the work hierarchy.

Of course, it’s absurd to make such a general statement and accuse workaholics of being narcissists. Some people actually find passion in what they do, and this explains their relentless endeavors to give their jobs as much as it takes.  But obsessing over being recognized, discrediting others’ achievements or acting as a devious politician in the workplace, is definitely a raised red flag that you should not brush aside.
