Last week, I coincidentally heard about a Standup Comedy event through a friend of mine. To be honest, I speculated that it will be another lame show with more or less nothing interesting to see. The peer pressure was intense, so I decided to go anyway.

Located in Maadi, the show was held at KMT, a hub for Cairo’s Urban/ UrbanTech innovators, entrepreneurs, and creatives. To my surprise, a lot of people were awaiting the show and the space was packed. A good sign.

The show began and I couldn’t stop myself from coming off as a crazy hysterical person who’s unable to take her breath from laughing uninterruptedly.

I was lucky to bump into Hashem El Garhy, the CEO and Founder of Al Hezb El Comedy. After having a nice chat with him, I found out that  Al Hezb El Comedy is Egypt’s platform for stand up, musical and sketch comedy, founded in August 2011. Their shows have reached London, Edinburgh, Scotland and their members have been invited to perform in over 10 cities all over the world including Montreux, London, Edinburgh, New York, Frankfurt, Toronto and Dubai.

An advocate for developing the stand-up comedy industry in Egypt, Al Hezb is constantly pushing to put on the best events for the community. It has successfully transitioned from performing live comedy to television, cementing their talents into becoming Egypt’s go-to brand for stand up comedy.

Since Al Hezb is always on the search for something new to give to the public, they came up with the Ramadan Comedy Festival; an initiative targeted towards the further development of the cultural arts community through stand up comedy in the Holy Month of Ramadan.

They’re organizing four comedy nights (Volumes) at three different locations featuring the best names in the industry, in order to promote for the development of the arts community. A portion of the proceedings will go to Alwan W Awtar, who focus on the development of communities through fine arts and who’ll be conducting workshops in association with Al Hezb.

Tomorrow is one of the awaited nights, so if you really want to experience something different, you just take yourself there and leave the fun to Al Hezb.

Here ‘s the line-up of tomorrow’s comedians:
