How to Be ‘Yourself’ on Social Media Without Losing Your Job

It’s a challenge these days to uphold your own thoughts, ideas and activities on social media, without pissing off your boss. I understand that managers and bosses don’t want their employees to post things that would endanger or poorly represent their company by any means but its our own free-zone for God’s sake!

But let’s imagine for a second that you’re going to this amazing party, and things got a little out of control; you wake up in the morning and you find everything posted on your Instagram stories, and on the list of viewers is your boss. In such instances, you walk in confidently and in complete denial, and if your boss brings it up you probably have to act deaf. So, as to avoid such a misfortune here are a few simple things to shield yourself from your boss and/or company’s detection whilst still keeping your free spirit.

Different Social Media Accounts

Since your job might oblige you to use your account for brand publicity, you can easily create a “professional account”. This professional account can include all the relevant content of your work, posts and others, and can also have all the people you need to keep a bit out of your personal circle. Your personal account is your free ground! Just don’t forget that you might want to keep your parents on your professional account too.

Spend Less Time on Social Media

During your working hours, try to limit the amount of time you spend making crafty Twitter and Instagram captions as this might slightly tick your boss off. Your boss’s main concern is the amount of time spent on social media, because by default this is translated to them as a productivity loss. So, cool off till 5 pm and then release the beast.

Privacy Settings

Come on, we can’t urge anyone enough to use their privacy settings for each post or the hide story switch. Whenever you want to share something personal, a political post that is controversial, or something a bit socially unacceptable, just click “share only with friends”. A simple act of remembering to use your privacy settings will save you.
