Taking a better look at the environment and realizing the graveness of its deterioration, has thankfully been getting more attention in Egypt. We have seen a lot of improvement towards environmental protection and foremost towards raising awareness amongst public audiences.

Recently, I heard about a very interesting initiative entitled Green Pan and it really stuck with me.

Here’s What I Found Out

Green Pan is a recent initiative carried out by a group of youth to raise community awareness towards protecting the environment, with extra attentiveness on recycling. Aspiringly, it directed its arrows to hit the largest number of Egyptian households during the holy month of Ramadan, with not less than 4000 homes in mind.

What actually seemed very intriguing during my research is that Juhayna, is, as usual, proving its strong presence in the community. By collaborating with Green Pan, Juhayna has placed the environment at the top of its priorities, with a clear agenda to rationalize energy consumption, shift to responsible consumption and follow global environmental standards.

What Was Green Pan Initially Trying to Do?

The initiative mainly rested on the process of re-using cooking oil in manufacturing bio fuel as a substitute for diesel, which can be used to operate factories and manufacture glycerin. This is, of course, with permission from the Ministries of Health and Environment.

Here’s How People Took Part in This Initiative

After finding out the staggering fact that one liter of oil can contaminate one million liters of water, a lot of people stepped in to push the wheels of such a great initiative.

The process went as follows: People had to collect five to ten liters of cooking oil, call the hotline on 19481 and before they knew it, Green Pan was there at their doorstep, closing the circle of this remarkable project. As they left, Green Pan reimbursed contributors with Juhayna Happy Kitchen Tomato puree along with an assortment of diverse gifts.

I was rapt when I was informed that this initiative ended up with approximately 3,200 visits around Egypt, with Green Pan collecting around 15,000 Kgs of oil with reimbursements of 5,160 Juhayna packs.

Hats off Green Pan and Juhayna for coming up with such an impactful initiative.
