The Head of the Scientific Committee Combating  COVID-19 in Egypt, Hossam Hosni, says that the country has not yet entered the second wave; however, he warned that there has been an increase in cases and this indicates that the virus is very much still among us.

Officials explained that this current increase is due to lack of caution from citizens and emphasized the importance of wearing masks at all times, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.

Recently, the numbers have decreased along late July and early August, but they seem to be going up again. With this in mind, isolation hospitals that had announced they were done treating COVID-19, have reopened their quarantine and treatment facilities once more.

It was reported in late July that Egypt expects to have 0 COVID-19 cases by mid-September. However, it was also reported that a second wave of the virus would begin by November in winter as that is naturally the flu season.

Yesterday, Egypt reported 178 new cases and 17 deaths. This is alongside the fact that there were 95,492 recorded cases to date with 53,678 of them that have been cured. 178 cases is the highest officially recorded number since last Sunday when the numbers had begun to decrease.

It’s important to note that while these are the recorded cases, many cases remain unrecorded because they are being treated from their homes.
