Although not many of you may know, Egypt actually has a space agency that was founded in 2019 by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), a public economic authority, was established to develop and localize space technology that would help the country build and launch satellites from Egypt.
Earlier this year, Daily News Egypt reported that Egypt is going to launch its first satellite assembly center in March 2021. This would be the first of its kind in the region, and will be located in the “under-construction space and satellite technology city in the Fifth Settlement” including several other necessary research centers, conference centers, a hotel for visitors, etc…
More recently, SatelliteProMe wrote that the Ministry of Communication and Information and Technology and the EgSA signed a cooperation agreement to help set up a computer center and “integrated information system for the space agency”.
This would help in preparing the infrastructure, a data center, computing equipment, softwares, security devices and storage units for the space agency.
Ever since they’ve opened up in 2019, there has been development in three projects explained on their website. One of the projects is called “Egyptian University Satellite” and this is particularly focused on developing the first Egyptian satellite made by university students locally.
The EgSA explained that the prototype production would be a graduation project under the supervision of experts and professors.
Interestingly enough, this opens up a whole new field for engineering graduates who are looking to work in projects that literally go beyond planet Earth. The EgSA announced on Facebook that they are looking to hire specialized people in their projects.
They are looking for software developers, artificial intelligence specialists, structural engineers, electrical engineers, space physics experts, computer engineers, spacecraft control engineers, mechanical engineers, and the list goes on.
