After Egypt has won the majority of votes in Tuesday’s meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF); it has been granted the hosting rights of 2019 African Cup of Nations, CNN reports.

Egypt has won 16 votes out of 18, with only one vote to South Africa and the remaining country abstained. Last year, Cameroon’s right to host the 2019 African Cup of Nations was stripped away due to serious delays in Preparation time and the uprising of violent separatists near two of the planned stadiums.

As a result, CAF opened a new bidding process where only Egypt and South Africa were to submit their candidacy to host the African Cup of 2019.

Egypt has already hosted four editions of the cup: in 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006. This year, however, there will be major innovations, with the tournament expanded to 24 teams up from 16, and moved from its former January-February calendar to a summer schedule.
