According to Amr Shaath, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Transport, reforming Egypt’s railway should’ve started 45 years ago. Now, Egypt’s ministries of transport and planning, along with the World Bank, are working out a strategy to upgrade it.

A report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) back in 2017, 13,539 accidents occurred between 2004 and 2016. With the peak being in 2009.
